Proverbs — Proverbs 31:13-21

Day 2223:  Sunday Funday? Sunday Restday! Sunday Worshipday! Sunday Familyday! How was yesterday for you?

Scripture:  She (an excellent wife) looks for wool and flax and works with her hands in delight.  She is like the merchant ships, bringing food from afar.  She rises before dawn to prepare food for her household and a portion for her maidens.  She inspects a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard.  She works vigorously and makes her arms strong.  She profits from taking advantage of bargains, and her lights burn late into the night.  She lays her hands on the rod for spinning and grasps the spindle with her fingers.  She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy.  She is not afraid of the snow for her household, for all of them have warm clothes!  Proverbs 31:13-21

Thoughts/questions:  I’m a WOMAN!!!  An old TV commercial in which a woman struts her stuff and sings about all she can do, but she doesn’t match ‘the excellent wife’ of Proverbs!  Wow!  Talk about multi-tasking and getting it done!

Verse 10 asks, An excellent wife, who can find her?  Fortunately, she can be found, but not without personal sacrifice.  If the concept of ‘self’ exists in her description, I can’t find it!  This ‘excellent wife’ sets the bar for all of us.  Her selfless attitude is reflected regarding her husband, work, shopping, sleep habits, treatment of servants, business acumen, farming, work ethic, preparation, the poor, and her family!

Can anyone do this?  Yes.  If we are selfless, ALL of the areas of our lives will be impacted.  Spiritually speaking, when you look into the mirror of your life, do you primarily see yourself or others?  The ‘excellent wife’ of Proverbs is selfless.  Our ‘excellent life’ can be attained when we follow her example!  Die to self and live for God and others – an excellent life!

Suggested Prayer:  Lord, it’s not what I can do, it’s what You do through me!  Help me get out of the way and let You make my life excellent . . .
