The Lord is my . . . — Shepherd!

Day 2243: Today we start a series on what God is to us by exploring verses which begin with ‘The Lord is my’ or ‘God is my’ – should be a great journey!!!

Scripture: The Lord is my Shepherd!  Psalms 23:1a

Thoughts/questions: Two things – What does a shepherd do and who is being shepherded.

1) The sheep! – A whole lot of not too praiseworthy things can be said about sheep, so I’ll sum it up with one word – Needy! In their own minds (small that they are), sheep probably see themselves like we often do – self sufficient – but we KNOW them to be needy. Yes, needy just like we are!

2) The shepherd – what is provided by the shepherd? SO much! Protection, guidance, peace, provision, healthcare, and more. He delivers them from their enemies; makes sacrifices for them, and is willing to lay down his life for those ‘needy’ sheep!

MY Shepherd! THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD!!! We start this series with God being our shepherd – our protector, guide, provider of peace and our daily needs, healer, and more! He delivers so much to us and delivers us from so much! His sacrifice is the ultimate as He was not only willing to lay down His life for us, He DID lay down His life.

There will be a lot of ‘is’ statements about God during this series, but let us never forget – The Lord IS my shepherd!!!

Suggested prayer: Living God of the universe, may I find comfort and rest daily knowing that You are my shepherd . . .
