Psalms — Psalms 4 – Peaceful Sleep!

Day 2541: Saturday and Sunday post!

Scripture: Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; be gracious to me and hear my prayer. O sons of men, how long will my honor become a reproach? How long will you love what is worthless and aim at deception? Selah.

But know that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself; the Lord hears when I call to Him. Tremble, and do not sin; meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and trust in the LordMany are saying, “Who will show us any good?” Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O Lord! You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and new wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety.   Psalms 4

Thoughts/questions: A quick look at a couple of phrases – You have relieved me in my distress and In peace I will both lie down and sleep!

Relief in distress! This too will pass is comforting as the distress WILL eventually be over, but also God brings relief DURING the distress! When our focus turns from the now to the eternal, relief comes quickly!

Lie down and sleep in peace! We all lie down, but when we do we are often not at peace and then our sleep is anything but peaceful. When our focus turns from self to God, sleep begins to be peaceful!

Not the now and not self; but the eternal and God! Distress relieved; peaceful sleep!

Suggested prayer: Almighty God, thank You for relieving my distress and bringing me sleep . . .
