Psalms — Psalm 48 – What About Israel?

Day 2599: May the Lord keep you close to Him . . .

Scripture: Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, in the city of our God, His holy mountain. Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion in the far north, the city of the great King. As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God; God will establish her (Israel) forever. Selah.

We have thought on Your lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of Your temple. As is Your name, O God, so is Your praise to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness. Let Mount Zion be glad, let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of Your judgments.  Excerpts from Psalm 48

Thoughts/questions: Israel is the focus of much of the Old Testament and many of the Psalms, as it is in today’s. Much of the focus of the world also centers around this tiny country. Tiny? Barely larger than the fifth smallest state in the U.S. – New Jersey, and there could be 18 Israel’s fitting inside of California!

So why does anyone care about it? Like people using Jesus’ name to swear, I believe this is one of the things that helps validate Christianity. Sound crazy? Let me explain.

When something is unexplainable, then maybe there is a higher power at work. Using Jesus’ name or God’s name to swear is surely unique. Why their names ONLY? Spiritual forces at work? Why would the entire world be concerned about what’ s going on in Israel? Why that little, not even one hundred years old, country? Spiritual forces at work?

Pray for Israel! Why did God choose them? Got me, but still pray for Israel!

Suggested prayer: Lord God, may the nation You have chosen and loved be blessed . . .
