Christmas — A Merry Little Christmas?

Day 2612: Sing, sing, sing!!!

Scripture:  Jesus speaking: I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.  John 16:33

Thoughts/questions: This is the first part of the lyrics from the little Christmas song that’s name is the first line of the song: ‘Have yourself a merry little Christmas; let your heart be light. Next year all our troubles will be out of sight, so have yourself a merry little Christmas. Make the yuletide gay; next year all our troubles will be miles away.’

This song about Christmas is wishful thinking indeed! Sometimes Christmas actually brings troubles right up close and in plain sight! And then next year, troubles may be very near, unless of course you can send that certain someone you nickname ‘troubles’ miles and miles away!

Jesus promises a Merry Eternity, but not always a Merry Little Christmas time nor a year devoid of any trials or sorrows. The world would love to convince us that our Merry Little Christmas is only a few days away. For Jesus, however, things are different!

For Him, Christmas MUST be viewed in light of eternity. True, part of the reason He came was to bring us His peace, but ultimately we will only experience an existence without trials and sorrows in heaven!!!

So, let’s all seek to experience our own Merry Little Christmas, YET always realizing ‘it ain’t heaven yet’ and we have SO much more than a happy holiday season to look forward to!

Suggested prayer: Dear Jesus, during this busy season, help me to stay focused on Your eternal purposes for me . . .
