Christmas — Truly a Holy Night!

Day 2617: Some Christmas words that might help. If your work or other environment makes it uncomfortable to say Merry Christmas, try this: ‘Happy holidays and have a Merry Christmas’ – after all, it is a multiple holiday season and every calendar says ‘Christmas’ on Dec. 25!!! Can’t get in trouble for that holiday wish! (More spacing problems – can’t fix ’em???)

Scripture: And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them . . . Luke 2:8,9a

Thoughts/questions:  O Holy Night! Maybe my favorite Christmas carol for its beauty and its content. I picked some parts of each section of this carol to elaborate on.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining

Till he appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn! Great words – ‘soul felt its worth’ – Yes, Jesus is worth and He has made US worthy as well!!!

The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend! ‘Our friend’ – the God of the universe came to be my friend – amazing!

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease! More great words – love and peace; what a way to live! And then an encouragement for all to stop slavery and oppression of any kind in Jesus’ name!!!

Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born! An appropriate response! Fall on our knees because of that Holy Night and everything it represents!!! You may not be in a spot where you can get to your knees, but sing this carol with all you’ve got!

Suggested prayer:  Dear Jesus, when I see You in heaven, I will definitely fall on my knees. Help me to do so now as well . . .
