Psalms — Psalm 58 – God’s Vengeance is my Vengeance!

Day 2639: Never forget the golden rule!!! Treat others as you would have them treat you – a fail safe way to live.

Scripture:  Do you indeed speak righteousness, O gods? Do you judge uprightly, O sons of men? No, in heart you work unrighteousness; on earth you weigh out the violence of your hands.

O God, shatter their teeth in their mouth; break out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord. Let them flow away like water that runs off; when he aims his arrows, let them be as headless shafts. Let them be as a snail which melts away as it goes along.

The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. And men will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth!”     Excerpts from Psalm 58

Thoughts/questions: Sounds like the Psalmist, David, is a bit mad at someone, eh! Yet he recognizes the God who said in Romans 12:19 that we are not to take revenge, but ‘vengeance is Mine,’ says the Lord!

This Psalm is in response to a time when David had a chance to kill Saul, his enemy, to establish peace. But he didn’t! Yet he is a bit descriptive as to how he would like God to take vengeance on His enemies isn’t he? Shattering teeth . . .

Yet for David, God’s judgment was David’s judgment. How about you? Are you still trying to ‘get back’ at someone in aggressive or even passive fashion? Are you implementing your vengeance agenda even though no one else even notices?

It’s time to let go and let God! He will reward, and He will judge. That’s part of his role, so let’s allow Him to be God ’cause we’re not!

Suggested prayer: Father God, thank You for being a good and righteous judge . . .
