Psalms — Psalm 60 – Two Sides of the Same God!

Day 2641: Side note – Robin, if you’re reading at 4 a.m., make sure you leave a comment!

Scripture: O God, You have rejected us. You have broken us; You have been angry; O, restore us. You have made the land quake, You have split it open; heal its breaches, for it totters. You have made Your people experience hardship.

That Your beloved may be delivered, save with Your right hand, and answer us! God has spoken in His holiness: “I will exult, I will portion out Shechem and measure out the valley of Succoth.

Who will bring me into the besieged city? Who will lead me to Edom? Have not You Yourself, O God, rejected us? And will You not go forth with our armies, O God? O give us help against the adversary, for deliverance by man is in vain. Through God we shall do valiantly, and it is He who will tread down our adversaries.   Excerpts from Psalm 60

Thoughts/questions: This Psalm starts with God seemingly rejecting Israel and ends with the promise that God will tread down the enemies of Israel. What???

But doesn’t that resemble what God’s response has been to us individually as well? He rejects us in our sinful nature, and when we fully trust in Him as our true God and Savior, He partners with us as He defeats our major adversary – death! Thankfully, we have a God who desires relationship with us and has reconciled us to Himself!!!

Quick thought: like a good parent/coach, God has made His people experience hardship. And like a good parent/coach, that hardship is for the betterment of the child/athlete! If you are currently facing hardship, KNOW that it not only can be intentional and purposeful, it is DEFINITELY going to be used for your good or for the good of others!

Suggested prayer: Father God, thank You for bringing me into relationship with You for today and forever . . .

  1. I’m here! Roll call. Just not 4:00 am. Got home from working in LA very late last night. I love God and your being here for me every morning, Larry. Thank you!

    • Hi Robin! Glad to still be a part of your life!
