Thoughts for 2017 — Hang In There Baby!

Day 2650: Today’s thought – Perseverance!

Scripture: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9  Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.  James 1:12

Thoughts/questions:  Persevering is pretty much understood as keeping on keeping on, but it also includes being steadfast despite difficulty or delay. It’s one thing to persevere on projects or goals we desire that just happen to take some time, but it is another thing to persevere when we really don’t want to!

We can tire of being a ‘goody two shoes’ and can try to escape trials and tribulations rather than persevering within the trial. However, as today’s verses state, we are to hang in there and not get discouraged or defeated!

There used to be a popular poster of a cat hanging on to a twig with the caption, Hang in there, baby! When people are barely hanging on and trying to persevere, I’ll often remind them of the cat poster and share that how many fingers we are hanging on with is not as important as Who is hanging on to us!

Persevere, hang in there baby, keep doing good – God’s strong right hand is holding on to us! Together, we will make it through!

Suggested prayer: Dear Lord, sometimes I get discouraged and want to quit. Help me to know that You are hanging on to me and help me to persevere under my trials . . .
