Thoughts for 2017 — I Want What?

Day 2656: Today’s word for a 2017 focus is Hungry.

Scripture:  (Jesus speaking) “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”  Matthew 5:6  Like a newborn baby, I should long for the pure spiritual milk of the word, so that by it I may grow into the fullness of my salvation now that I have tasted the kindness of the Lord. I Peter 2:2, 3

Thoughts/questions: Our desires range at various times and stages of our lives, but one thing should remain a constant – a hunger for the things of God!

We wake up in the morning and our minds start desiring things – like getting back in bed! Some of our daily ‘I wants’: Restroom, coffee, more coffee, food, shower, peace and quiet, no traffic, pleasant work environment, no problems, more coffee, food, family time, rest, mental vacation or some recreation, food plus dessert, and sleep. And we want these again tomorrow as well!

Yes, we hunger after many things. God knows that and encourages us to prioritize hungering after the right way of living and His word. Do we wake up and hunger after living a life of integrity and uprightness? Do we want to spend time with Him.

Check your appetite. Is it like a baby crying after its milk, or can we do without for awhile? Let’s be hungry this year! Hungry for His word and hungry to live an exemplary life!

Suggested prayer: Dear Lord, give me the desire for that which You would have me desire . . .
