Psalms — Psalm 87 – The God of the Mountains!

Day 2692: Lots of surgeries and ‘stuff’ happening to loved ones this week – keeps one on their knees . . .

Scripture: His foundation is in the holy mountains. The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the other dwelling places of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God. Selah.

“I shall mention Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me; behold, Philistia and Tyre with Ethiopia: ‘This one was born there.’” But of Zion it shall be said, “This one and that one were born in her”; and the Most High Himself will establish her. The Lord will count when He registers the peoples, “This one was born there.” Selah.

Then those who sing as well as those who play the flutes shall say, “All my springs of joy are in you.”   Psalm 87

Thoughts/questions: To fortify ancient cities, they were usually built on some type of mountain or hill. Jerusalem, a mountain city, reminds us that we are to have our foundation in a place which provides a sure defense, as life attacks relentlessly. Bad things happen to good people. The righteous often suffer while evil prospers. Challenges abound. What is your defense?

Stealing from a future Psalm (121) it states, I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? My help comes from the LordWho made heaven and earth. The foundation of our defense begins at the very top – God Himself!

Our enemies DON’T have the upper hand, as God dwells at the top of the mountain. Our help does come from the Lord – He made heaven and earth AND mountains! Rely on Creator God to be your sure defense!

Suggested prayer: Lord God, life tries to overwhelm me. Be my rock and strong mountain . . .
