Psalms — Psalm 111 – God’s Covenant!

Day 2734: Life is hard; pray harder!

Scripture: Praise the LordI will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation. His work is honorable and glorious, and His righteousness endures forever. He has made His wonderful works to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and full of compassion. He will ever be mindful of His covenant.

He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: holy and awesome is His name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.  Excerpts from Psalm 111

Thoughts/questions: A covenant is like a contract – an agreement between two parties. When we sign a contract, we expect the other signer to fulfill the obligations of that contract. If not, a lawsuit ensues. But this Psalm states that God has commanded His covenant forever. He’s not about to renege on His promise!

God previously made covenants with individuals and with the Jews, but those were restricted to specific parties. However, His newest and possibly last covenant made through Jesus is for EVERYONE! This new covenant accomplished what the old could not, i.e., the removal of sin and cleansing of the conscience.

God2me has referenced forgiveness of sin many times, but what about this cleansing of the conscience? Guilt! We’re free of sin, but not always free from guilt! If God forgives and then forgets, all of our guilt is now self imposed. This should not be so! God’s covenant is forever; His forgiveness is complete: we are free from guilt! Let’s live in freedom!

Suggested Prayer: Lord God, I will praise the Lord with my whole heart . . .
