Psalms — Psalm 115 – Our Help and Shield!

Day 2738: Welcome to May!!!

Scripture:  Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to Your name give glory.

Others have idols of silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they do not speak; eyes they have, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; noses they have, but they do not smell; they have hands, but they do not handle.

O Israel, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the LordHe is their help and their shield. You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield. May you be blessed by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men. Praise the Lord! Excerpts from Psalm 115

Thoughts/questions: Not to us! It sounds easy, but even the Psalmist had to repeat it twice. The mirror often takes too much of our attention. No, not to us, but to His name be the glory!

After stating the reality of the gods of others – inanimate idols, the Psalmist takes us to the true God, capital G! And this God is to be trusted, as He is their help and their shield! Like a soldier of old who used a shield to protect against the arrows of the enemy, our shield protects us from the arrows the world throws at us.

And like any good partner, they recognize each other’s weaknesses and help their partner in times of need. God is our good partner! No wonder it is His name that should receive the glory!

Suggested Prayer: Lord God, You are my help! You are my shield . . .
