Psalms — Psalm 119:9-16 – Only a Young Man?

Day 2755: May your weekend be filled with God’s peace and joy!

Scripture:  How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. With all my heart I have sought You; do not let me wander from Your commandments. Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.

Blessed are You, O Lord; teach me Your statutes. With my lips I have told of all the ordinances of Your mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways. I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word. Psalm 119:9-16

Thoughts/questions: I’m not sure why the Psalmist referenced a young man and purity, as that’s an issue that crosses the years! And the answer crosses the years as well – simple in its answer, but hard in the actual living out of that simple answer.

Probably because we usually are not treasuring God’s word. It becomes an after thought or something we engage in when we have some spare time. We can’t meditate on or treasure something that’s not part of our daily existence, and then purity is hard to live out.

Let’s all re-commit to treasuring the words of the Almighty God and then meditate on those words! We CAN do it!

Suggested prayer: Almighty God, may my ways be pure because I treasure Your word . . .
