Psalms — Palm 123 – Look Up!

Day 2785: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind!

Scripture: To You I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens! Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until He is gracious to us.

Be gracious to us, O Lord, be gracious to us, for we are greatly filled with contempt. Our soul is greatly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.   Psalm 123

Thoughts/questions: Downcast – not a good experience. First one becomes despondent, then the eyes look down, and finally our head is bowed. But God wants us to look UP! He lifts our head (Psalm 3:3), and then all we have to do is open our eyes and look!

Shoulders back, head erect, eyes seeking the heavens – not a proud position, but a humble one in which we acknowledge from Whom we receive grace. From Whom we find peace when others treat us with prideful contempt or mock us for our beliefs.

Take time this weekend to look up! Lift up your eyes to the Almighty! Then close them and listen! Stop, look, and listen. He will speak!

Suggested prayer: Lord God Almighty, so often I merely look out or down. Help me to always look up to You . . .
