Famous Last Words — It’s Pretty Clear!

Day 2305: Headed for a ‘hot’ USC football game with my 8 year old grandson, Dakota. Praying for a great day! Prayers for Houston and Cabo San Lucas.

Scripture: And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

Thoughts/questions: So, what is this therefore, there for? Jesus had recently rose from the grave and revealed Himself to many. Now, He declared His authority over all – therefore, whatever He now said should be a top priority of the listeners.

And His first words are, “Make disciples!” Not ‘make baseball fans like Larry Hoekman,’ as I follow it minimally and haven’t attended an entire game in who knows how long – I’m certainly not a ‘disciple’ of baseball!

No, the disciple Jesus is referring to is one who follows Him as Lord. Not one like me who dabbles in baseball. But one who commits their entire life to Him. First, has someone been instrumental in ‘making us a disciple?’ If you know of someone who has that honor in your life – be sure to tell them!

Second, we ARE commanded to do this, so the obvious question is – are we? Evangelizing may not be our gift, but all of us can be a spiritual mentor to someone! We can’t get out of this one – in some way, shape, or form – MAKE DISCIPLES!

Suggested Prayer: Lord Jesus, as a follower of You, I need to obey . . .
