Famous Last Words — Much More Than Mere Water!

Day 2308: Remember JOY – Jesus, then Others, then You!

Scripture: And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

Thoughts/questions: Controversy reigned in my experience with baptism – infant/adult; sprinkle/immerse; required for salvation/not required – but regardless of all of that, the importance of this symbolic action of obedience cannot be questioned!

Peter encouraged his listeners to ‘Repent and be baptized’ and Jesus told His followers to do the baptizing. Not everyone in heaven will have been baptized, i.e. the thief on the cross who did not have the opportunity to be baptized, but that doesn’t minimize the importance of baptism!

When we choose to follow Jesus, change is inevitable! Death to life/all things become new/darkness to light – definite change! And the beginning of this change is signified by the symbolic cleansing of the waters of baptism. It was one of the highlights of my adult life to come out of the water sensing the new Larry rising as my wife joined me in proclaiming our desire to become new!

If you haven’t been baptized, please deeply consider it. If you have, encourage others to do the same! Jesus even chose to do this and SO should we!

Suggested Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for bringing me out of darkness into Your marvelous light . . .
