Luke — Great Words!

Day 3110: Let us all worship and bow down . . .

Scripture:  Then Jesus said to them all: “Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for Me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very soul? Whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them . . .”  Luke 9:23-26a

Thoughts/questions:  According to C.S. Lewis in The Weight of Glory, “The New Testament has lots to say about self-denial, but not about self-denial as an end in itself. We are told to deny ourselves and take up our crosses in order that we may follow Christ.”

Notice we are to experience self-denial, not to deny ourselves of whatever. We die to self and let Jesus live His life through us! When we get self out of the way and let God do His thing through us, life as we know it changes!

Other quick points in these great words of Jesus: Logic would dictate that if we wanted to save our lives, we should do whatever it took to do so. Jesus says to lose our life for Him to save it – Wow.

Many would love to have extensive material gain, but Jesus re-prioritizes us and reminds us that our souls are most important. Also, Jesus requires a bit – NOT to be ashamed of Him – ever!

Suggested Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to have Your words become my life . . .
