Luke — Only One Thing Needed!

Day 3116: Only one life twill soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last!

Scripture: As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42

Thoughts/questions: Our needs are minimal, but we don’t often live based on needs alone. Check the amount of our clothes; square feet of our homes; quantity of food in the fridge and pantry; amount we waste; even the size of our TV’s. Truly, few things ARE needed, but . . .

Ok, I’m not trying to lay a guilt trip on anyone, but Jesus’ point is clear – when it all boils down to it, only ONE thing is needed and that is our relationship with God! Many of us are blessed with an abundance of ‘stuff’ and know a lot of people. But again, the bottom line when we all face our Maker will be ONE thing!

Reminder – we’ll spend maybe 80+ years one earth and eternity elsewhere, so indeed only one thing is needed. Within our stuff, we are to make sure to prioritize the ONE thing!

Suggested Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me to focus more on the ONE thing I really need – my relationship with You . . .
