Luke — A Promised Gift!

Day 3117:  Stay cool in the heat; have peace in the storm!

Scripture: “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:11-13

Thoughts/questions: This is the first time I’ve become aware of God’s gift to ALL who ask. I used to understand Jesus’ words by focusing on the concept of our Father who loves us giving us good gifts. But this time two other things stood out.

1) The reverse might also be true – meaning that we may ask for a fish, but God knows that the fish isn’t good for us. So He may not give us a snake, but we might not get the fish  either! My kids asked me for a lot of things I knew weren’t good for them, so they got something else – our heavenly Father does the same!

2) I was really taken by the promised gift we all WILL receive – the gift of the Holy Spirit! That gift is best for all of us! One who will give us peace and comfort in all situations! Now that’s a great gift! And a guaranteed one!

Suggested Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your great gift . . .
