Luke — Opposition!

Day 3121: We are the light of the world – shine brightly today, even without words!

Scripture: When Jesus went outside, the Pharisees and the teachers of the law began to oppose Him fiercely and to besiege Him with questions, waiting to catch Him in something He might say.  Luke 11:53,54

Thoughts/questions: Opposition – ‘resistance or dissent, expressed in action or argument’ – even though we don’t initially like it, some push back or constructive criticism keeps us from being prideful or having the ‘my way or the highway’ attitude. And in sports, it wouldn’t be much fun unless we faced some good opposition.

However, when taken to an extreme, opposition can be very harmful. Jesus certainly faced it after He brought strong words of conviction to these religious leaders. And we know the eventual result of Jesus’ life. Yet, many of Jesus’ words in Luke 11 parallel things that are happening in the U.S. and around the world.

Extremism seems to reign, at least in the news. The current president of the U.S. is facing similar opposition. Since being elected, the ‘news’ began to oppose him fiercely and to besiege him with questions, waiting to catch him in something he might say. And this president ‘says’ lots of things to fuel the fire. On earth, Jesus’ story didn’t turn out well. Only the future will tell us where the events in the U.S. will lead.

Personally, be open to opposition and welcome constructive criticism while being careful of what you might say! Most feedback into our lives is not of the extreme variety, so let God mold and make you through some healthy resistance or dissent!

Suggested Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me to hear loving opposition and to speak lovingly when I am opposed to something or someone . . .
