Luke — No Greed!

Day 3123: Bless the Lord Oh my soul!

Scripture:  Someone in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” Then He said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” Luke 12:13 – 15

Thoughts/questions: If I love X (for example – motorcycles). The problem is that the possession I love will never satisfy me. Check a motorcycle museum if you disagree. Better motorcycles have continued to be developed over the years. All motorcycle lovers become a bit unsatisfied with their current one when the ‘new and improved’ motorcycle comes out. Gotta have that one!

And as Jesus stated, there are all kinds of greed! Our innate covetous nature must be reigned in as we find real life in Jesus and not in things/people/money/fame. Jesus also let’s us know in no uncertain terms to, ‘Watch out!’ and ‘be on our guard.’ A stern warning indeed as we all have that one (or two or three or . . .) thing we really would want more of.

Time for a little introspection. Check that greed meter! A little high in some area? Watch out for you may sacrifice a lot to get it and then later realize that true life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.

Suggested Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for helping me keep my life in perspective regarding what is really important . . .
