Luke — Scary, Yet Not . . .

Day 3133: May the Lord bring you His peace!

Scripture: (Jesus talking) “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with You, and You taught in our streets.’ “But He will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from Me, all you evildoers!’ “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last.” Luke 13:26-30

Thoughts/questions: The thought that I could believe I knew God but then He didn’t know me has always been troublesome. And I’ll admit, maybe a bit scary. Facing eternity and then having Him say, “Away from Me” is not something anyone would want to hear. Especially if they had thought they qualified for heaven!

But then Jesus clarifies things a bit. There will be many at the eternal feast, and those who do qualify are those who line themselves up properly with God and man. They know their place – humble before God and seek to serve, not to be served. People who aren’t driven to be first at all costs.

The question of where one might spend eternity is not scary for us who have received Jesus as our Savior and who live a life of humility and service. Yes, facing Jesus will be scary for the proud – be humble; serve others!

Suggested Prayer: Dear Jesus, may I really know You and have confidence in my future with You . . .
