Luke — A Must!

Day 3135: Seek first the kingdom of God!

Scripture: One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, He was being carefully watched. There in front of Him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?” But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, He healed him and sent him on his way.

Then He asked them, “If one of you has a child or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?” And they had nothing to say.  Luke 14:1-6

Thoughts/questions: Since reading the Gospel of Mark a long time ago, I’ve been a big fan of questions! Jesus was my example as He certainly used them well during this encounter with those ‘opposing’ Him.

And the results were dramatic. No confrontation! No arguing! Point made; point received! He could have defended His position theologically or beat them up intellectually, but instead chose to ask the ‘right’ questions!

We MUST model His ability to question especially in today’s contentious world. Presenting a case doesn’t seem to work anymore. As Proverbs 15:2 states, “By speaking wisely, I make knowledge acceptable; but fools spout only foolishness.”

Jesus used questions to speak words wisely; we must do the same!

Suggested Prayer: Lord Jesus, You have set a wise example for me; help me to follow Your lead . . .
