Luke — Money or ???

Day 3141: Another Friday to TGIF – Thank God I‘m Forgiven!

Scripture:  (Jesus speaking) “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.  Luke 16:13-15

Thoughts/questions: One of Jesus’ many qualities was that He told it like it is and didn’t pull any punches. We fool ourselves when we think we can put two things first. Impossible, no ties available. I liken it to when I was young and at a pool. We’d find two styrofoam floating things and jump on them with a foot on each one and try to stand as long as we could. Inevitably, and usually quickly, we’d fall. That too was impossible.

Yet as Christ followers, we still try to do the impossible. Love God yet material things dominate our thoughts and motivate our actions. God knows our hearts – we can’t fool Him. Any ‘thing’ that we put before our love for Him is detestable in God’s sight!!!

Make ABSOLUTELY SURE He really is #1! No personal rationalization or self justification! Let us all be in God’s service and not serve any other!

Suggested Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for speaking to me so directly . . .
