Luke — Stern Warning!

Day 3142: Enjoy this last weekend in August – time is fleeting!!!

Scripture:   Jesus said to His disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. So watch yourselves. Luke 17:1-3

Thoughts/questions: I wish Jesus’ words were directed only at the enemy, Satan and His demons. However, He is speaking to us, and what a stern warning His words are.

We all face temptations and frustrations that originate from without and from within, and Jesus acknowledges that ‘life happens’ in regards to those. But if/when someone causes others to stumble by what they did/said – NOT good!

But their life is their responsibility, right. It shouldn’t matter what I do – they have the choice as to how they are going to respond. Whatever they choose – it’s not my fault! And Jesus’ response to this line of thinking would be??? Obviously He wouldn’t agree would He?

Jesus’ final words are super important!  “So watch yourselves.” We’re not free to do as we please around others. What we do/say has potential for good and for bad. Selfishly doing whatever we want would demonstrate self is more important to us than God or others. This should not be so! Watch yourself!

Suggested Prayer: Dear Jesus, sometimes I forget my responsibility to my brothers and sisters. May I never put myself above them . . .
