Luke — A Hidden Message???

Day 3147: Fridays! Gotta love ’em! I’ll be golfing and babysitting Grandkids!

Scripture:  Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock Him, insult Him and spit on Him; they will flog Him and kill Him. On the third day He will rise again.” The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what He was talking about.  Luke 18:31-34

Thoughts/questions: It doesn’t seem like Jesus’ words could have been any clearer. Possibly the confusion came from the fact that the disciples were Jewish and had certain expectations of the coming Messiah. They may have stopped listening and began daydreaming about the coming kingdom when Jesus spoke of prophecy being fulfilled.

Yet sometimes we’re guilty of the same. God spells out clearly what our attitude should be, and what He expects from us. We read it or hear it, but then . . . .  It’s not that we don’t understand, or what God means is hidden from us. No, we just refuse to put the info we’ve received into action, similar to His disciples. So we read this and wonder what was wrong with the disciples, but then we look into our own mirror and realize we’re not that different.

May we not merely listen, but may we listen and obey! – No excuses!

Suggested Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your teachings are clear. Help me to obey . . .
