Luke — Will and Purpose!

Day 3155: Maybe it’s because I’m retired that I kind of like Mondays! Refreshed mentally, physically, and spiritually and ready for battle!

Scripture: “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him. And being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. Luke 22:42-44

Thoughts/questions: The Passion of the Christ has always held a special place in my heart and mind since my junior high camp where I received Jesus into my heart upon hearing about everything Jesus did for me during this time.

Two things from these verses; 1) Jesus’ attitude. He expressed His opinion to the Father – if You are willing, take this cup from Me – but didn’t allow His feeling to control His decision making. He chose to be obedient regardless of what lay ahead of Him. Can we have this attitude? When facing something painful or merely something we just don’t want to do, do we run the other way, or remain obedient???

2) Jesus’ struggle. We know that our own personal struggles are all too real for us, AND we can know that Jesus went thru a similar, if not far worse, struggle to the point of His sweat was like drops of blood. This experience validates His struggle. Intense to say the least. We struggle as well – do we follow Jesus’ example – He prayed more earnestly? So should we!

Suggested Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me to be more like You . . .
