Luke — Will We be Doing the Same?

Day 3156: 9/11 – an unforgettable day in the history of the U.S. Prayers for all the extended families of those who lost their lives . . .

Scripture: The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown Me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.  Luke 22:61, 62

Thoughts/questions: Peter’s denial of Jesus after Jesus had predicted the same is pretty infamous in Christian circles. Peter was then moved to tears regarding what he had done. Some day, will we shed similar tears?

In Revelation 21:4a it states, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes”. If at some point in heaven God is wiping away tears, someone must be weeping. We can only conjecture as to why those tears are being shed, but I’m not thinking they’re tears of joy.

Maybe our tears will result from knowing, like Peter, that we did not represent our relationship with Jesus in a way that we should have? Maybe we’ll realize how we prioritized the temporal over the eternal? Maybe we lived a life of fear not one of faith? Maybe He’ll wipe away tears stemming from lack of obedience.

And just maybe He’ll wipe away the tears of others and not yours . . .  May we live our lives so that we minimize the number of tears God will need to wipe away!

Suggested Prayer: Father God, may my tears in heaven only be tears of joy . . .
