Luke — I Want a Sign!

Day 3157: Remember, you didn’t get to this day by yourself . . .

Scripture:   When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see Him. From what he had heard about Him, he hoped to see Him perform a sign of some sort. He plied Him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer. The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing Him. Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked Him. Luke 23:8-11

Thoughts/questions: Herod wanted a sign; didn’t get what he wanted; and then rejected and ridiculed Jesus. Sadly, this has been repeated far too often. People earnestly pray for a miracle or sign from God; they don’t get the answer they prayed for; and then they reject God completely.

Knowing the our ways are not God’s ways, we might expect this to happen regularly, even when what we are praying for seems to be a very good thing! We just want what we want! We didn’t like when our parents didn’t’ give us what we wanted when we were kids, and it seems sometimes we never grow out of it.

My prayer is that if the above rings true with you personally or when we encounter those who have had this experience, that we can demonstrate the love of God in spite of unanswered prayer.

Suggested Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me to trust You completely . . .
