Luke — A Very Bad Trade!

Day 3158: Joy to the world, the Lord has come! It ain’t Christmas yet, but our joy can be there every day!

Scripture:   But with loud shouts the crowd insistently demanded that He be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. So Pilate decided to grant their demand. He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will. Luke 23:23,24

Thoughts/questions: Like all of us, Pilate had a choice to make. Good vs evil; right vs wrong; love vs violence. The answer seemed obvious. But again like all of us, there was an external pressure place upon him. The voice of the crowd; the volume of the shouts; he weakened; he then relented.

When faced with a spiritual or moral decision, we too have a voice shouting to us. The ‘good’ choice, which might seem to be the obvious one, has an opponent. Whatever we allow to insistently demand the wrong option can win. We can pick what we know we shouldn’t if we listen long enough!

May we do the opposite of Pilate. May we not surrender Jesus to the will of the wrong, but may we surrender our will to Jesus!

Suggested Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me to listen to You not the lies shouting at me, and to always surrender my will to You . . .
