Luke — Why Seek the Dead Among the Living?

Day 3173: Blessings on your Monday!!! Starting an East Coast vacation today!

Scripture: While the women were perplexed about the tomb being empty, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing; and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living One among the dead?   Luke 24:4,5

Thoughts/questions: Within Christian circles, the question ‘Why do you seek the living One among the dead?’ is rather well known. The question I’m asking myself and God2me readers today is a little different.

Why do we seek the dead amongst the living? The dead in this case are the things that will pass away and be no more. Jesus said it this way in Matthew 6:19, 20a “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.

Check your garage and see how much you’re ‘storing up.’ Check your calendar and determine what it tells you about what you’re seeking. Do they tell us that we have it backwards? That just maybe we’re seeking the dead amongst the living!

May this not be so! We may need to take care of certain physical necessities, but we certainly should not be seeking and pursuing what doesn’t last at the expense of that which will count for eternity!

Suggested Prayer: Lord Jesus, You have made me aware of what really counts. Help me to choose these things over all others . . .
