James — There is Hope!

Day 3188:  A long, but important post!

James:  My tongue is sparked by hell itself; it is a flame of fire, the very world of iniquity.  It can poison every part of my body and can turn my whole life into flaming destruction.  I might be able to tame any kind of animal, bird, or fish, but I cannot tame my tongue.  It is always ready to pour out its deadly poison.  Sometimes my tongue will praise and bless our Lord and Father, and at other times it will curse men who are made in His image.  My mouth produces both blessing and cursing; I should not speak this way.  After all, does a spring send forth both fresh and bitter water?  Can a fig tree produce olives, or a grape vine produce figs?  No, and neither can salt water produce fresh.  James 3:6-12

Thoughts/questions:  Sorry to say, we WILL be saying some bad stuff, but we can tip the scales in favor of blessings! All of us can speak a blessing to someone today, maybe many!  Let’s do it and build such a mountain of blessings that when we do slip and curse others, it will be minimal compared to ALL of the blessings our mouths have already spoken – get started building your ‘Blessing Mountain’!

Knowing that so many people are disparaging the name of Jesus by using His name to swear, let’s balance that scale a bit  too. Let’s say great things to and about Jesus to counter the words of others.  Jesus, You’re awesome; Jesus, You are the Christ; Thank You Jesus . . .  Let’s bombard Him today and every day w/good words!

Cursing others – another area we can do better. Pick an area your tongue is struggling with and minimize that.  I’ve chosen driving – the bad drivers haven’t changed, but I’m planning on doing much better!

Suggested prayer: Father God, I am going to choose to use my mouth to bless others and to honor Jesus . . .
