James — Scratch Off Some Silver!

Day  3189:  May God overwhelm you with Himself today!

Scripture:  If I am wise and understanding, it will be shown by my good deeds done in the gentleness of wisdom.  But if there is bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in my heart, it would be arrogant of me to lie and pretend they do not exist.  Jealousy and selfishness are not expressions of God’s wisdom, but are earthly, natural, and of the devil.  For if I am jealous and selfish, then there will be confusion and all forms of evil.  James 3:13-16

Thoughts/questions:  Wise and understanding vs bitter jealousy and selfish ambition – it seems obvious as to which we should choose for a lifestyle; however, we have to be careful as selfishness can take over and result in jealousy of all kinds.

I liken our selfishness to seeing the world through a glass, but one that has silver covering the other side making it a mirror.  We need to let God remove as much silver as possible so we can see others through the glass and not have all of life seen by how it reflects on us.

None of us want confusion and all forms of evil to characterize our lives so we definitely have a fight on our hands as jealousy and selfish ambition are continually knocking at the door of our thoughts and actions.  Good works must come from a good heart, and these verses remind us to watch that heart.  God’s wisdom expresses itself in my good deeds done in the gentleness of wisdom.  As you inspect your heart today, are you being jealous or selfish????  Work at scratching off a little silver!

Suggested prayer:  Lord, help me to rid my life of selfish ambition and to desire only what You want for me . . .
