James — God is Jealous Over Us!

Day 3191: May the Lord bless you and keep you . . .

James:  It is like being an unfaithful marriage partner when I am friends with the evil pleasures of the world.  By choosing these pleasures, I become an enemy of God.  For the Scripture tells me that God jealously yearns over His Spirit that dwells within me.  He extends more grace to me when I struggle with these choices.  For the Scripture also says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”  James 4:4-6

Thoughts/questions:  In God’s value system, pride is simply putting our will in place of His.  It is one of life’s ultimate questions.  Am I going to yield control of my life to God or am I going to do what I want? An unfaithful marriage partner gets to that point through pride.  Choosing the evil pleasures of the world is rooted in pride.  Being an enemy of God results from pride.

Historically, the Jews did ‘that which was right in their own eyes’.  Later, Satanist, Aleister Crowley, wrote the first Satanic law ‘do what thou wilt’.  Then the hippies coined the phrase ‘do your own thing’.  Now we’ve simplified it to one of my most hated words – ‘whatever’!  All of these are an attempt to be in control of our daily decisions and do ‘whatever’ we want.

God is interested in our humble submission exemplified by this simple phrase – He is God, and I am not!  In the big things and in the small, CHOOSE God and He will extend more grace to you and give grace to the humble!

Suggested prayer:  Father, you truly are God and I am not.  Please help me to recognize my pride when I choose to only do whatever I want . . .
