James — So Much in so Few Verses!

Day 3192: May the grace of the Lord Almighty fill your spirit today!

James:  Therefore, I should humbly submit myself to God, and resist the devil; and he will flee from me.  As I draw closer to God, He will draw closer to me.  Knowing that double-mindedness and sin are in my life, I need to wash my hands; cleanse my heart; and grieve, mourn, and weep over my sin.  My laughter must turn into mourning and my joy into sorrow.  When I humble myself in the sight of the Lord, He will lift me up!  James 4:7-10

Thoughts/questions:   Wow, could James have packed any more into these 4 short verses??  The devil’s first lie was that we could be like God and not have to listen to Him. He’s still using the same line – but he will flee as we resist – tell him to go!

As I draw closer to God, He will draw closer to me.   Sometimes we think that God is stationary and we move to and away from Him.  Here James states that God will draw closer to us in response to our desiring to get closer to Him – make that first move!!!!

Sin is bad stuff; we have it; we do it; and we must sorrow over it.  A serious look at our sin can even replace our laughter with mourning.  Short lived; however, as we ARE forgiven and free.  That is our daily joy, but we must grieve over our sin for a time.

When I humble myself in the sight of the Lord, He will lift me up!  Don’t strive to be humble (it would be ironic to be proud about being so humble), but seek to put the BIG God of the universe first and little us second! Then God CAN and WILL lift us up!!!

Suggested prayer:   Father God, please lift me up closer to You and help me to recognize the magnitude of my sin . . .
