James — God Willing!

Day 3194: God willing, headed to Colorado to lead a grand parenting seminar – prayers please!

James:  I shouldn’t say, “Today or tomorrow I am going to this or that city, spend a year there, and engage in a profitable business.”  How do I know what will happen tomorrow?  My life is really just like a mist of fog that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.  Instead, I will depend on God and say, “If the Lord wants me to, I will live and do this or that.  Otherwise, it would be bragging and boasting, and such self-confidence never pleases God.  James 4:13-16

Thoughts/questions:  Is God this demanding entity that needs us to acknowledge Him in everything we do? Or??  We often talk about our future plans as if they were written in stone.

I remember overhearing my kids boasting about their future plans – plans which would never happen without Dad’s approval and financial help.  I didn’t NEED them to give me any credit, but it would have been far more accurate for them to at least mention their parents’ role in their plans! Father God looks at our lives in the same way.

Without acknowledging God, we give the impression that we are in complete control of our future. In reality, ALL of our lives are dependent on the living God.  In regards to controlling our future, we CAN’T, so to say we can is bragging and boasting.

The words we speak should express this perspective.  Adding a simple ‘God willing’ to any statement about our future sends the message that we are relying on and trusting God not ourselves! Let us speak this way!

Suggested prayer:  Lord Almighty, help me to speak about my reliance on You for my future plans . . .
