James — Persevere Without Judging!

Day 3198: Even on Halloween James provides much wisdom!

James:   I must not grumble and complain against my brothers or I will be judged.  Behold, the true Judge is standing right at the door.  The Lord’s prophets are good examples of patience in suffering.  Those who persevered are considered blessed.  Job’s perseverance resulted in him seeing the outcome of the Lord’s dealings.  Through it all, he experienced that the Lord is merciful and full of compassion.  James 5:9-11

Thoughts/questions: I never have connected grumbling and complaining with judging someone, but actually I am evaluating a behavior and making a negative judgment, which then pries open my mouth to reveal the ‘bad’ attitude of my heart.  That’s what the true Judge does – evaluates the heart.  The next time we grumble/complain, it is an indication that we need a heart exam to assess how our heart is doing!!!

Shakespeare is quoted to have said, ‘Nothing is good or bad, but thinking makes it so’.  Well, how does God ask us to think about what happens in our lives? Bad things?  Maybe ‘bad’ – like practicing an instrument/sport to become good at it is not without great effort; but that effort is not a ‘bad’ thing to persevere through.  AND, James states that those who persevered are considered blessed.  If God considers us blessed, then we are!!!!

Right now, I know that many readers are persevering through a difficult time. Remember His promises and remind yourself that your persevering is NOT in vain.  You will be blessed and will see the outcome of the Lord’s dealings.  Through it all, you will experience that the Lord is merciful and full of compassion. He WILL renew your strength!  You will rise up on wings like eagles.

Suggested prayer:  Lord, help me to persevere and not judge . . .
