James — Help and Pray!

Day 3202:  The end of James – what a book!!!

James:  Elijah was a human just like me, and yet when he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, it did not rain for the next three and a half years.  Then he prayed again, and the sky poured forth rain and the earth again produced vegetation.  If someone wanders from God and the truth, and I bring him back to the Lord, I will have saved his soul from death and will have covered a multitude of sins.  James 5:17-20

Thoughts/questions:  Maybe Elijah wasn’t quite the same human I am???  I don’t seem to do such a good job of controlling the heavens.  However, let’s look into this a little more deeply – did Elijah strike out on his own, have a wild idea, and say this prayer because of some selfish reason – and God responded????  Probably not!

Just maybe, he became aware of God’s purposes regarding the times in which he was living and his prayer was along the guidelines of James.1:2,3.  His prayer was not something done out of selfishness, but done in conjunction with the mind of God.  So, maybe I am similar to Elijah!  James is using an extreme example of answered prayer to illustrate that when our prayers line up with God’s will, ANYTHING could happen!

James ends with what should be a goal for ALL of us.  We always should be sensitive to people who don’t know God or who have walked away from Him; then be willing to be used by the God of the universe to encourage them to come back to God or start a relationship with Him!

Suggested prayer:  Lord Almighty, help me to pray earnestly and let me be there for someone who needs You today and everyday . . .
