II John

II John

This letter is from John the Elder to the chosen lady and me, one of her children whom John loves in the truth.  All members of Christ’s body should know God’s truth – the truth that lives in me and will be with me forever.  Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with me in truth and love.

It makes me have great joy when I find Christ followers who are living in the truth, just as the Father commanded all of us to do.  God is urging me to love others.  This is not a new commandment, but one He had given me from the very beginning.  And this is love:  that I walk in obedience to His commands.

And He has commanded me to love others, just as I heard from the beginning. For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not acknowledge that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh.  Any such person is a deceiver and an antichrist.  I need to watch out in order not to lose what I have worked for, so I may be rewarded fully.  For if I go too far and do not abide in the teachings of Christ, I do not have God.

But if I continue in His teachings, I have both the Father and the Son. If anyone were to come to me and not teach the truth about Christ, I should not take them into my house or encourage them in any way.  By encouraging them, I become a partner in their work.

There is much more that John could have written, but he didn’t want to say it in a letter.  Instead, he would prefer to talk face to face so that my joy may be complete.  John sends greetings from other children of God.
