Psalms — Justice Over Love?

Day 4886: Father’s Day weekend – fathers, DON’T exasperate your children!!!

Scripture: Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to Him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to Him a new song;  play skillfully, and shout for joy. For the word of the Lord is right and true; He is faithful in all He does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of His unfailing love. Psalm 33:1-5

Thoughts/questions: God’s love is spoken about from various perspectives. One side says how can God love humanity given all the problems in the world, and the other side relishes His love. However, what God loves is specifically laid out in today’s verses. The Lord loves righteousness and justice.

So often people want to make God’s love completely unconditional. But these verses tell us that His ‘conditions’ are clear. Although He will always love His children, He has expectations of them. And they will get what they have earned – justice will reign and those who are righteous will prevail! Unaccepted forgiveness and elevating self above God will result in God’s judgment. Not a pleasant thought, but His judgment is actually a confirmation of HIs love for us. We can’t just do anything and be OK.

God has standards we are to meet – let’s make sure we meet them!

Suggested prayer: Almighty God, I trust your justice and righteousness . . .
