Day 4896: Last Friday in June – half the year pretty much gone, but TGIF – Thank God I’m Forgiven!
Scripture: The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against His anointed One. “Let us break their chains,” they cry, “and free ourselves from slavery to God.” But the One who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them. Psalm 2:2-4
Thoughts/questions: In the U.S. there is a presidential election coming up and last night was the first of two debates. Both candidates did some form of preparation, but wouldn’t it be nice if one of them would state that part of their preparation was prayer? And that they realized their need for God and our country’s need to rely on Him as well. They may have, but on one confessed!
Rulers trying to take power and run things on their own strength and might are nothing new. But the ultimate truth is that God directs their path. The presidential candididates may not have been as extreme as in today’s verses, but they certainly didn’t put God first and foremost. So God laughs, as they merely ‘think’ they have power, whereas the real power belongs to the One who rules in heaven.
We may not like the results, but remember – God laughs!
Suggested prayer: Lord God of the heavens, I tend to fear what the future might bring. Help me to trust in You completely . . .
